Mandarin Song Singing Contest Received Encouraging Response

On 30 November 2013, Mandarin Language Society (MLS), UMP, in collaboration with MLCC, had organized a Mandarin Song Singing Contest, which was held at Block W, UMP, Gambang campus. The objectives of the contest were to stimulate the learning interest and to provide a platform for Mandarin song singing among UMP students. The participants were divided into two categories, namely Category A: Basic Mandarin Group, and Category B: Excellent Mandarin Group. This program had received positive responses from UMP students. A total of 14 students registered for category A and 25 for category B. The programme advisor, Ms Yong Ying Mei, a UMP Mandarin Language Teacher, disclosed that the main objective of the contest was to promote Mandarin learning through Mandarin songs. There were seven invited judges namely Ms Yong Ying Mei, Dr. Tan Suat Hian, Dr. Tan Lit Ken, Dr. Cheng Chin Kui, as well as three volunteer teachers from China, who were Madam Yuan Jie, Ms Liu Xu and Ms Peng An Qi. The programme director, Tan Sok Yee, a third year student from Faculty of Technology, commented that the event was successful and would love to thank her committee members for their cooperation. Best performers from each category were as follows:

Category B: Excellent Mandarin Group
