Chinese New Year Scroll Writing Competition

On 26 February 2014, Mandarin Language Society (MLS) and MLCC organized a Scroll Writing Competition at Block W concourse, Gambang Campus. The competition received overwhelming competitors in two categories: Category A for Chinese and Category B for non-Chinese. YH Dato’ Sri Lee Jin Xian, president of Malaysia Chinese Culture Association for Pahang Branch, was the guest of honour to officiate the opening ceremony. In his opening speech, he advised undergraduates should participate actively in campus activities and understand each other’s culture.

MLCC Director Chong Ah Kow has earlier in the welcoming speech expressed his gratitude to YH Dato’ Sri Lee Jin Xian for his presence and assistance in terms of services and other resources to MLCC all these while. Meanwhile, Malaysian Calligraphy Master Hor Chim Sim from Kuantan was invited to show some useful techniques in scroll writing to the participants at the end of the competition.

Also present were Dato’ Alex Teh Boon Sing, Executive Chairman, Nilaitek (M) Sdn. Bhd, Tan Kee Seng, East Coast Manager of Sin Chew Daily, Tan Kian Seng, Executive, Newspaper Reading Programme of Sin Chew Daily, Yong Ying Mei, Mandarin Subject Coordinator, Kang Mei Feng, Liu Xu, Yuan Jie and Peng An Qi.
