Thursday, 6 Mac 2014|Chong Ah Kow The Malaysian Undergraduate Mandarin Speaking Competition 2014 Undergraduates should prepare themselves to be international citizens. That was the advice given by YH Professor Dato’ Dr. Daing Nasir Ibrahim, Vice Chancellor, during his opening speech of the Malaysian Undergraduate Mandarin Speaking Competition 2014 at Astaka on 27 February 2014. MLCC has successfully played its role in promoting Mandarin language learning and Chinese culture, he added, and urged the Centre to strive further for higher achievements. Meanwhile, His Excellency Mr Gao Wei, Cultural Office Director of Embassy of People’s Republic of China (PRC), who was invited to deliver HSK certificates to successful candidates from UMP at the ceremony, highly praised MLCC’s remarkable contribution in propelling Mandarin Language learning and Chinese culture, and applauded for more Malaysian learning Mandarin and understanding Chinese culture. Earlier, Chong Ah Kow, MLCC Director, expressed his gratitude to YH Professor Dato’ Dr. Daing Nasir Ibrahim, Vice Chancellor, and His Excellency Mr Gao Wei, Cultural Office Director PRC for their presence and making the event a meaningful one. Also present at the opening ceremony were Chang Shan, Second Secretary of Cultural Office, PRC, Professor Dato’ Dr. Mortaza bin Mohamed, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic and International), Professor Dr. Abd Jalil Borham, Dean of Centre for Modern Languages and Human Sciences, Chan Wei Chi, Assistant Director of Pahang Education Department and Yong Ying Mei, Mandarin Subject Coordinator, Centre for Modern Languages and Human Sciences. The competition which took place on 27 & 28 February 2014 was held at Astaka, UMP. A total of 30 participants from nine universities competed in three different categories, namely Category A: Mandarin for Chinese, Category B: Mandarin for Non-Chinese with Chinese language educational background and Category C: Mandarin for Non-Chinese without Chinese language educational background. The closing ceremony was officiated by representative of Deputy Vice Chancellor, Ramli Abit, Co-curriculum Department Director. UMP students excelled in all the categories in which the winners were |
