Smart Partnership Programme inspired Cluster School’s Students On 28 March 2015, MLCC and Foreign Languages Department of CMLHS organized a Smart Partnership Mandarin Learning Programme which was attended by 40 UMP undergraduates and 38 primary students from Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Cina (SJKC) Kong Min, an excellent cluster school in Kuantan. The event was held at Tun Teja Hall, UMP Gambang Campus from 8 am to 5 pm. The main objectives of the event were to motivate the students of the excellent cluster school to excel in their learning and to create an environment for UMP undergraduates who are presently attending Mandarin lessons to practise the language. The programme was officiated by Associate Professor Dr. Muhammad Nubli bin Abdul Wahab, the Acting Dean of Centre of Modern Language and Human Sciences. In his speech, he encouraged the primary students to study hard so that they would become an UMP undergraduate or even to teach in UMP next time. Earlier, Chong Ah Kow, MLCC Director, delivered the welcoming speech. The programme began with an ice-breaking activity, followed by language games such as “zhao pengyou” (looking for friends) and “xiazi qu baowu” (blind man searching for treasure). Later in the afternoon, the participants were brought to visit the laboratory of Chemical and Natural Resources Engineering to observe and to partake as well in experiments in the laboratory.The experience in the laboratory has greatly inspired the primary students. The closing speech was delivered by Hong Kong Yean, headmaster from SJK (C) Kong Min. He expressed his utmost gratitude to UMP for inviting them for the programme. He was very sure that the programme greatly inspired the students to set their feet in a university in future. CMLHS Mandarin language teacher, Kang Mei Feng, the mastermind of the entire programme, expressed her gratefulness to the help extended by her colleagues namely Yong Ying Mei, Cheng Ching Yee, Nornashua Farhani Binti Abdul Ghaffar, and also to the volunteer teachers namely Cui Meng Jie, Wang Xiao Zhi and Chang Xiao Bo. |
