MANDARIN SPEAKING CONTEST RECEIVED ENCOURAGING RESPONSE
Thursday, 16 April 2015|Yong Ying Mei Edited by: Faridah Hamzah MANDARIN SPEAKING CONTEST RECEIVED ENCOURAGING RESPONSE On 15 April 2015, Mandarin Language and Culture Centre (MLCC) and Mandarin Language Society (MLS), UMP, in collaboration with Centre for Modern Languages and Human Sciences (CMLHS), organized a Mandarin Speaking Contest, which was held at Mini theatre, block X, Gambang campus, UMP. Mandarin Speaking Contest received encouraging response from UMP students. A total of 28 UMP students registered for the contest. Its programme adviser Ms Yong Ying Mei, a senior Mandarin language teacher of UMP, disclosed that the main objective of the contest was to select 5 candidates to represent UMP in Chinese Bridge Competition which is organize by Kong Zi Institute, University of Malaya and Hanban, China. The topic of Mandarin speaking contest is “a Chinese Culture and I”. All the participants had a public speaking in Mandarin within 90 second. This contest was open to non-Chinese students. There were seven invited judges namely Dr Chin Siew Choo, Dr Omar El-Hadad, Ms Yong Ying Mei, Madam Kang Mei Feng, Ms Cheng Ching Yee and include two volunteer teachers from China, who are Mr Chang Xiaobo and Mr Wang Xiaozhi. Dr Aini Ahmad, Head of Foreign Languages department and Mr Chong Ah Kow, Director of MLCC were present on prize giving session. The programme president Lee Soon Poh, a student from Faculty Industrial Sains and Technology, commented that the event was successful and he thanked his committee members for their cooperation given. The competition was crowded by audience and contesters’ supporters. The winners were as follows:
