Chinese Bridge Competition for Malaysia Region 2016

          On 7 May 2016, seven representatives from UMP participated in the 15^th Chinese Bridge Competition for Malaysia Region 2016 at Institute Kong Zi, University of Malaya. UMP representative, Tharushini A/P Thiagarajan (AA13266) won the “Excellent Award”. Fahad Amirul Aziz Bin Baharuddin Aziz (AA15301), Madyasir Bin Ahmad Basir (CB14077), Nur Zuriati Bt Zakaria (SC14024), Vick Noom A/L Eh Boon (MH14065),Sharifah Amirah Bt Syed Husin (MA14215) and Sayyidatina Al Hurul Aina Binti Alzahari  (CB13112) received the consolation prizes.

The Chinese Bridge Competition is a world’s Chinese Proficiency contest event sponsored and coordinated by Headquarters of Confucius Institute, China. The competition is held yearly at 80 countries in the world. In Malaysia, Kong Zi Institute, University of Malaya is responsible for selecting a Malaysian representative to participate in Chinese Bridge Final Competition in China.  

The competition consisted of a series of tests including public speech, Q&A session and Chinese art talent show. All candidates were required to give speeches on “China in my eyes” in Mandarin. UMP representatives managed to deliver them with excellent accuracy, fluency and body language to score the highest marks. In the talent show, UMP representative performed difference talent show such as Chinese dance, sang Chinese songs, juggling Chinese diabolo and played Chinese drum.

The greatest compliment should be accorded to all Mandarin teachers, Ms Yong Ying Mei, Madam Kang Mei Feng, Volunteer Language Teachers, Ms Wang Wen Ying, Ms Sun Yun Feng and Ms Ju Meng for their effort in training and preparing UMP candidates for this event.
