UMP Calligraphy Competition 2017

Mandarin Language Society (MLS) had organized UMP Calligraphy Competition 2017 at Astaka, Gambang Campus on 25th February 2017. Malaysian Calligraphy Master Hor Chim Sim from Kuantan was invited to give lectures on the useful skills of writing Chinese calligraphy to the participants before the competition begin.Beside that, Master Hor was also the head judges of the Calligraphy competition for four consecutive years. Also present were Yong Ying Mei (Director of MLCC), Kang Mei Feng (Advisor of UMP Mandarin Language Society), Cheng Ching Yee (Language teachers from Centre for Modern Languages & Human Sciences), Sun Yun Feng, Ju Meng, Shao Zheng Lan and Zhang Wei Qing (Volunteer teachers from Hanban, China), Chen Yin Teng and Ng Xiu Wen (Practical teachers from New Era College). All the Mandarin teachers were present in the event and provided guidance to the participants. During the competition, Master Hor had also patiently observed the participants and gave them advice on how to write a perfect calligraphy arts.

The aim of the competition was to promote the beauty of calligraphy arts to the student of UMP. The competition had successfully attracted 120 students included 80 Chinese and 40 non-Chinese. The event had a total of 22 prizes for two categories, which were category A for Chinese student and category B for non-Chinese student. The winner for Category A was Wan Yan Zhen, followed by first runner-up Kong Yee Tong, and second runner-up Sia Yiik Swan; while the winner for category B was Norlinda binti Adsun, followed by first runner-up Muhammad Ridzwan bin Mohamad Shukri and second runner-up Indu Lega a/p Parapalatnan. Another 16 prizes were given to best improvements participants: Lai Mom Cin, Lim Chin Hau, Ching Yi Yong, Tan Kei Guan, Tan Wen Jiun, Ngew Fei Teng, Hew Fei Zhuang, Ng Yi Chuan, Yeow Qing Wei, Lee Wan Yee, Koogulan a/l Chinnasamy, Parvathi Nandini, Plivitra a/p Pushparaja, Nuratiqah binti Mohd Isa and Arwana binti Omar. The best improvements prizes were sponsored by the Calligraphy Master Hor Chim Sim.
