UMP student joined the 16th “Chinese Bridge” Summer Camp
3 August 2017 - The 16th “Chinese Bridge” Summer Camp was launched at Hunan University (HNU) with a total participation of 123 college students from 106 countries and regions. The 12 days event was sponsored by the Confucius Institute Headquarters (Hanban), and undertaken by the HNU for 9 consecutive years since its initiation in 2009. UMP student, Fahmi Muhamad Rasyid from the Faculty of Chemical & Natural Resources Engineering was selected to join the summer camp after winning the second place in the 16th Chinese Bridge Competition for Malaysia Region at Kong Zi Institute, University of Malaya. The summer camp include activities in Beijing and Hunan. The participants visited the Confucius Institute Headquarters and the Great Wall in Beijing from August 3, and the tour continued in Hunan until August 14. All the participants were given an opportunity to experience the Chinese language and culture in order to learn more about China. The “One Belt & One Road” initiative lectures were aimed to expose all the participants about the current China diplomatic policy. Popular tourist attractions such as Yuelu Academy, Hunan Embroidery Museum, Yueyang Tower, and Tongguan Kiln Museum were visited by the participants. The participants get to experience the Chinese history and culture through these visits. During the summer camp, all the participants were adopted by local Chinese families. They lived with the local host families to experience Chinese daily life. The highlight of the summer camp was the invitation to witness the 16th “Chinese Bridge” – Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreign Students at the studio of Hunan Channel. Head of PALAPES LAUT UMP, Fahmi stated that the summer camp had given him “a fruitful experience to learn more about the Chinese language, culture, history and the country, China”. He met Chinese learners from 106 countries and they shared their personal experience in learning Chinese.
