The Railway Mandarin Course Opening Ceremony

23 February 2018 – The Mandarin Language & Culture Centre (MLCC) had organised an opening ceremony for the Railway Mandarin Course at the Astaka hall, Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP), Gambang campus.
The opening ceremony was officiated by Professor Dato’ Sri Ts. Dr. Daing Nasir Ibrahim (UMP Vice Chancellor). He emphasized that the Railway Mandarin Course is one of the courses that UMP offers to the East Coast Railway Link Project (ECRL) trainees. The course introduces technical railway in Mandarin. He also mentioned that UMP will train 3,600 trainees in the next 5 years for the ECRL project and these trainees will be absorbed by the Chinese and Malaysian ECRL construction companies after their training programme ends. He hoped that by joining the Railway Mandarin Course, the trainees will be able to adopt and adapt the Chinese working culture whilst maintaining good relations with their Chinese colleagues. Ms. Yong Ying Mei (MLCC director) in her speech, said that the Railway Mandarin Course has started since January 2018 with just 28 trainees. Currently, there are 4 classes running from February until April 2018 with 133 trainees; 2 classes at Gambang campus and another two at Pekan campus. She has also expressed her appreciation to all Mandarin teachers for their cooperation in developing the syllabi and modules. Also present were Mr. Lee Seng Tian (HR Senior Manager of China Communications Construction (ECRL) Sdn. Bhd.), Associate Professor Dr. Muhammad Nubli Bin Abdul Wahab (Dean of Centre for Modern Languages and Human Sciences), Dr. Fadzil Bin Mat Yahaya (Director of Rail Industry Academy (RIA)), Dr. Doh Shu Ing and Dr. Md Rizal Bin Othman (Deputy Director of RIA), Madam Kang Mei Feng, Ms. Hooi Yan Yee, Mr. Tan Wai Chung, Ms. Cai Haixia, Ms. Deng Xingmei, Ms. Jin Yongxin, Ms. Wang Xuemei (Mandarin teachers) and Madam Nornashua Farhani Binti Abdul Ghaffar (Administrative Assistant).
