The MLS Callideography Day

Pekan - On 12 May 2018, Mandarin Language Society (MLS) of Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) had organized an event called Callideography Day. Callideography Day is a combination of a calligraphy workshop with an ideogram workshop. This program was held at the Faculty of Manufacturing Engineering’s, BAP 1 and BAP 2, University Malaysia Pahang, Pekan Campus.

Participants of these programs were 13 non-Chinese students of UMP Pahang. This program was conducted in two sessions. The first session was the ideogram workshop which was a sharing session related to the evolution of Chinese writing throughout the history. whereas the second session was a calligraphy workshop. This workshop provided the participants with an opportunity to learn about Chinese calligraphy and practise it for themselves. Mandarin Language Society also invited volunteer language teacher (VLT) from MLCC, Ms. Cai Hai Xia to be the judge in the calligraphy competition.
The main objective of Callideography Day was to develop an interest in Mandarin language among the non-Chinese students and expose the Chinese culture to the non-Chinese with the hopes to provide the participants with a better understanding of the culture.
