Mandarin Fiesta 2018

Kuantan - On 29 April 2018, the Mandarin Language Society (MLS) had organized an event called Mandarin Fiesta 2018. This event was held at the Astaka Hall, Universiti Malaysia Pahang Gambang Campus. The event was divided into two sessions. The first session was a Chinese calligraphy competition held from 8am to 1pm. This competition was categorized into Chinese and Non-Chinese categories. The titles of the Chinese Calligraphy Competition were "四时吉庆，八节安康" for the Chinese category, whereas "福" is for the Non-Chinese category.

In this Chinese calligraphy competition, the participants needed to methodically and carefully write the titles. The Mandarin Language Society had also invited 9 judges for this competition and they were:
1) a famous calligrapher known as Mr. Liong Ah Kaw
2) Director of Mandarin Language and Culture Centre (MLCC), Ms. Yong Ying Mei
3) language teachers from the Centre for Modern Languages & Human Sciences (CMLHS), Madam Kang Mei Feng and Ms. Hooi Yan Yee
4) MLCC Volunteer Language Teachers (VLT), Ms. Cai Hai Xia, Ms. Wang Xue Mei, Ms. Jin Yong Xin and Ms. Deng Xin Mei and
5) Dr Jiang Xiao Xia from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering.

The winners were selected for each category.

The second session was dedicated to an exhibition and a workshop held from 1pm to 4pm. The activities organised in the exhibition and workshop included, how to use chopsticks, Chinese calligraphy workshop, Lantern Riddles, Blowing Plum, Paper Cutting, Angpow Art, Chinese knot, Chinese Chess, and Diabolo workshop. In this session, the participants had their chance to experience different performances such as singing, modern dances, and diabolo.
