2021 Dragon Boat Festival Workshop

11 June 2021 – Confucius Institute Universiti Malaysia Pahang (CI UMP) organized 2021 Dragon Boat Festival Workshop through Google Meet. A total of 68 non-Chinese students from UMP participated in this workshop.

Ms. Yong Ying Mei (Director Malaysia, CI UMP) as the speaker of 2021 Dragon Boat Festival Workshop. She introduced the origins, customs, and cultural of the Dragon Boat Festival through vivid pictures and videos, as well as the difference in ingredients and shapes between Chinese rice dumplings in Malaysia and Malay rice dumplings.

An online quiz of Dragon Boat Festival has been organized for participants. Participants scored 80 percent and above given a scholarship from CI UMP to join a Mandarin course organized by CI UMP within one year. All participants also given e-certificate of participation and merit.

Participants expressed that a lot of the culture custom of the Dragon Boat Festival in this workshop make them more know more about cultural knowledge out of Mandarin classroom. They hoped that CI UMP would organize more cultural activities, introduce more traditional Chinese festivals and customs, and they would like to know more about cultural exchanges between Malaysia and China.
