Conversational Mandarin 1

1.  COURSE SINOPSIS

The course is intended for general public who wish to learn to speak Mandarin for everyday conversation purposes. Course contents include Basic Chinese Phonetics (Hanyu Pinyin System), pronunciation, basic sentence structures and selected texts for listening and conversational practice. The participants will learn through interesting classroom activities, modules, interactive learning software.

 

2.  COURSE OBJECTIVES

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

1. i.use appropriate social greeting and introduce oneself;
2. ii.talk about one’s family;
3. iii.talk about one’s daily activities in selected situation;
4. iv.state the date and the days of the week;
5. v.enquire and bargain for prices of

 

3.  COURSE CONTENTS AND DURATION

This is a 5 days intensive course and tentative timetable is as follows (page ii):

Day 1	0830 – 0900	Opening Ceremony & Introduction to the Course
	0900 – 1000	Greetings and Introduction
	1000 – 1030	Break
	1030 – 1300	How Many Members are There in Your Family?
	1300 – 1430	Lunch
	1430 – 1630	Practice to introduce oneself, introduce others, and talking about one’s family; Surfing Mandarin learning websites.
Day 2	0830 – 1000	What day is today: Dates and Days of the Week
	1000 – 1030	Tea Break.
	1030 – 1300	What’s the Time now?: Tell the time & Daily activities
	1300 - 1430	Lunch
	1430 - 1630	Dialogue practice on telling date, day, time and daily activities; Surfing Mandarin Websites.
Day 3	0830 – 1000	What do you want to buy? Enquire about price.
	1000 – 1030	Tea Break
	1030 – 1300	Shopping & Bargaining.
	1300 – 1430	Lunch
	1430 – 1630	Speaking practice on shopping & bargaining; Exposure to Mandarin Software learning.
Day 4	0830 – 1000	Watching Television:
	1000 – 1030	Tea Break.
	1030 – 1300	Talk about Malaysian Festival
	1300 - 1430	Lunch
	1430 - 1630	Speaking practice on daily activities; Exposure to Mandarin Software learning.
Day 5	0830 – 1000	I am Learning Mandarin:
	1000 – 1030	Tea Break.
	1030 – 1300	Let Us Go for a Cup of Tea:
	1300 - 1430	Lunch
	1430 - 1600	Presentation & Evaluation;

4.  PROSPECTIVE PARTICIPANTS

Any person who has the interest in learning to speak Mandarin at the beginning level.

 

5.  PROPOSED VENUE:

MLCC/CMLHS MULTIMEDIA LABS (Negotiable)

 

6.  CERTIFICATE:

Candidates who have successfully completing the course will be awarded Conversational Mandarin 1 Certificate by MLCC.

 

7. FEES :

RM300/per student/per level

Fees stated are calculated based on a minimum of 10 students per class and inclusive of modules and registration cost.    

Class can be conducted outside UMP campus with extra charges on transportation and cost of venue.

(RM3000/per level for 1 on 1 tutorial class)
