Chinese Language and Culture Exposure Programme

1.  COURSE SINOPSIS

The course, which will be conducted in English, is intended for general public who wish to have an exposure to Chinese Language and Chinese Culture. Course contents include introductory conversational Mandarin, characteristics of Chinese Language and Chinese culture. The participants will learn through interesting classroom activities, modules, video shows and interactive learning software.

 

2.  COURSE OBJECTIVES

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

1. i.use appropriate social greeting and introduce oneself in Mandarin;
2. ii.talk in Mandarin about one’s daily activities in selected situation;
3. iii.state the date and the days of the week in Mandarin;
4. iv.state some characteristics of Chinese Language;
5. v.state some examples of Chinese Culture.

 

3.  COURSE CONTENTS AND DURATION

This is a 10 days intensive course and tentative timetable is as follows (page xix):

4.  PROSPECTIVE

Any person who has the interest in learning to speak Mandarin at the beginning level and also like know about the language and the culture.

 

5.  PROPOSED VENUE

MLCC/CMLHS MULTIMEDIA LABS (Negotiable)

 

6.  CERTIFICATE

Candidates who have successfully completing the course will be awarded Chinese Language and Culture Exposure Programme Certificate by MLCC.

 

7. FEES :

RM500 / per student

Fees stated are calculated based on a minimum of 10 students per class and inclusive of modules and registration cost.    

Class can be conducted outside UMP campus with extra charges on transportation and cost of venue.

Conversational Mandarin for Travelling

1.  COURSE SINOPSIS

The course aims to equip participants with survival Mandarin communication skills. Course contents include relevant vocabulary and simple language patterns for effective communication while travelling in China. The participants will learn through interesting classroom activities, modules, interactive learning software.

 

2.  COURSE OBJECTIVES

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

i.use appropriate social greeting and introduce oneself;

ii.state the date and the days of the week;

iii.ask the way;

iv.enquire and bargain for prices of goods;

 

3.  COURSE CONTENTS AND DURATION

This is a 5 days intensive course and tentative timetable is as follows (page ii):

	1430 – 1630	Practice to introduce oneself, introduce others, and counting; Surfing Mandarin learning websites.
Day 2	0830 – 1000	What day is today: Dates and Days of the Week
	1000 – 1030	Tea Break.
	1030 – 1300	What’s the Time now?: Tell the itinerary.
	1300 - 1430	Lunch
	1430 - 1630	Dialogue practice on telling date, day, time and itinerary.; Surfing Mandarin Websites.
Day 3	0830 – 1000	What do you want to buy? Enquire about price.
	1000 – 1030	Tea Break
	1030 – 1300	Shopping & Bargaining.
	1300 – 1430	Lunch
	1430 – 1630	Speaking practice on shopping & bargaining; Exposure to Mandarin Software learning.
Day 4	0830 – 1000	Ask the way.
	1000 – 1030	Tea Break.
	1030 – 1300	Ask the way.
	1300 - 1430	Lunch
	1430 - 1630	Speaking practice on ask the way; Exposure to Mandarin Software learning.
Day 5	0830 – 1000	Looking for Halal restaurant
	1000 – 1030	Tea Break.
	1030 – 1300	Check in Hotel:
	1300 - 1430	Lunch
	1430 - 1600	Presentation & Evaluation;
