MLCC: The Launching Ceremony

18 January 2011 – The launching Ceremony of Mandarin Language & Culture Centre (MLCC) was held on 18 January 2011 by the Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah. The ceremony was attended by UMP Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dato' Dr. Daing Nasir Ibrahim, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and International), Professor Dr. Badrulhisham Abdul Aziz, the President of Hebei University (HU), Professor Dr. Wang Hongrui, the International Office Director of HU, Xu Jianzhong, Secretary to the HU President, Zhou Ning and Li Yanlong. Professor Dato Dr. Daing Nasir Ibrahim and Professor Dr. Wang Hongrui exchanged the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), which was signed to set up the MLCC. The ceremony was witnessed by Dato’ Saifuddin Abdullah. He encouraged more Malaysian universities and foreign universities to explore their academic and technical expertise via constructive exchange programs. He added that the establishment of this first language and cultural center in the East Coast provides students from all walks of life the opportunities to learn Mandarin and appreciate the beauty of Chinese culture and understand the Chinese ethic customs. He believed this constructive collaboration is one way of strengthening the relations between Malaysia and China. Finally, Professor Dato’ Dr. Daing Nasir Ibrahim believed that acquiring and mastering additional languages can enhance a person’s competitiveness and improve their impersonal skills. He hoped that the MLCC will become one of the prominent landmarks of the university, thus fostering more competitive talents to our nation. |
