2 in 1 to Begin 2012

29 February 2012 – The Mandarin Language & Culture Centre (MLCC) organized two events of series of events for 2012. The events were a ceremony of Officiating Mandarin Course 2012 and Newspaper Handover by sponsors on 25 February 2012.  Prof. Dr. Abd Jalil Borham, Dean of CMLHS was invited to officiate the ceremony.  In his speech, the Dean explained that the ceremony had two purposes: Firstly, to mark the starting of Mandarin courses offered by MLCC for the year 2012, and secondly, to officially receive three complimentary copies of Sin Chew Daily.  He thanked Dato Alex Teh Boon Sing for sponsoring 3 copies of Sin Chew Jit Poh every day for 2012, costing about RM2000. He also stressed on the advantages of knowing Mandarin in looking for jobs. Invited guests for the ceremony were Dato’ Alex Teh Boon Sing, DIMP., Executive Director of Nilaitek Sdn. Bhd., Tan Kee Seng, East Coast Manager of Sin Chew Daily and Tan Kian Seng, Newspaper in Education Area Manager of Sin Chew Daily. Chong Ah Kow, MLCC Coordinator, Yong Ying Mei and three Chinese Volunteer Teachers represented the centre for the ceremony.

Sharing the Joy of Chinese New Year 

On 30 January 2012, the first day of Chinese New Year (CNY), MLCC organized a trip to visit Chinese New Year open house organized by the president of Pahang Chinese Cultural Society, Dato’ Li Jin Xian. The objective of the visit was to let the non-Chinese UMP students to experience for themselves how Malaysian Chinese community celebrates the CNY so that they would have a better understanding of Chinese culture. Ten non-Chinese students from different states of Malaysia followed the trip which was led by Zhang Cuicui and Husna Hashim.  They were warmly welcomed by Dato’ Li and his family members.  During the visit, the students learned CNY greeting “gong xi fa cai”, got a hongbao (red package) each, tasted delicious Chinese food prepared and watched an exciting dragon dance.
