Ningxia, China, 24 April 2019 - Confucius Institute of Universiti Malaysia Pahang (CI UMP) coordinated a collaboration between UMP with the Republic of China industry to embrace Globalised Online Learning by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Kocel Group Limited (KOCEL) for five years at the National Intelligent Foundry Industry Innovation Centre (NIFI), Ningxia, China.
The MoU has been signed by the Vice-Chancellor of UMP, Dato’ Sri Professor Dr. Daing Nasir Ibrahim and the President of KOCEL, Mr. Peng Fan. The General Manager of KOCEL Group Mr. Chang Jun Yong and Deputy Director of CIReL, UMP Dr. Gan Leong Ming witnessed the event.
Also present were Professor Dr. Zulkafli Bin Hassan (Dean of Chemical Engineering & Natural Resources), Assoc. Prof. Ts. Dr. Ruzaimi (Deputy Dean of Mechanical & Manufacturing), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Chong Kok Feng (Deputy Dean of Industry Science & Technology) and Ms. Yong Ying Mei (Director of Confucius Institute UMP).
The MoU seeks collaboration in the areas of online academic collaboration in MOOC, Global Classroom, Micro Credential, online postgraduate study (both students and staff) and collaborative research for technological advancements.
KOCEL is a leading casting and foundry industry which also includes supplying equipment and servicing the top 500 companies in the world such as GE, Siemens an many others. KOCEL has more than 50 years of experience of development and continuous innovation through system, technology and management, with leading in cast, intelligent machinery manufacturing, chemical and steel structure. Meanwhile KOCEL subsidiary-National Intelligent Foundry Industry Innovation Centre (NIFI) is industry-university-institute oriented open, who also shares online platform for industrial ecology to establish generic technology research and development for commercialization, industrialization and knowledge transfer.
Before signing the MoU, UMP delegations led by Vice-Chancellor Dato’Sri Daing together with Professor Dr. Zhu Xuejun (Dean of Mechanical Engineering, Ningxia University) visited KOCEL steel casting, intelligent manufacturing, 3D sand printing facilities and IR4.0 cutting edge operating centre.
By signing the MoU, KOCEL President said that the collaboration between UMP and KOCEL not only aligned with the Republic of China policy to integrate industry-university teaching & learning approach, it also matches with “one belt one road” strategy to enhance the collaboration between Malaysia and China in both online of education and industry innovation.
The Vice-Chancellor Dato’Sri Daing said that the MoU with KOCEL is a landmark in the history of UMP to establish UMP-KOCEL-NXU collaboration in providing industry oriented and niche online education to both local and international students. Some of the initiative include UMP-KOCEL niche MOOC exchange, intelligent manufacturing knowledge sharing through cross cultural interaction between KOCEL technologist specialist with UMP academics and students, professional development for KOCEL staff through UMP niche area, and finally visibility of UMP as Malaysia No. 1 technological University in China intelligent manufacturing industry.
