UMP students passed with flying colours in Chinese Proficiency Test (HSK Test)
Monday, 16 November 2016|Cheng Ching Yee Edited by: Ahmad Nasaruddin Bin Sulaiman UMP students passed with flying colours in Chinese Proficiency Test (HSK Test) A total of 10 students from UMP who has participated in the Chinese Proficiency Test in English (HSK Test) passed with flying colours with two full mark scorers. The HSK Test is China's only standardized test which measures the proficiency level of non-native speakers of standard Chinese. It is a widely recognized test comparable to TOEFL of English. There are six levels of testing labelled as Level 1, being the lowest proficiency, to Level 6, the highest. These 10 UMP candidates took the HSK Test on 14th November 2015 at Kongzi Institute, University of Malaya. Their results were released after a month while their certificates were sent to UMP on 15 January 2016. Three candidates sat for HSK Level 1 while seven attempted HSK Level 2. Dzutika Muhamed and Nabila Mohd Adzan, students from Faculty of Mechanical Engineering who scored full marks (200/200) claimed that they did not expect that they could score full marks. According to Nurzuriati Binti Kamarudin from Faculty of Chemical & Natural Resources Engineering who scored 179 out of 200, felt grateful to the Mandarin teachers from MLCC who provided HSK Intensive classes to train non-Chinese students for the HSK Test. Zulhilmi Mohd, student from Faculty of Engineering Technology, is the top scorer among HSK Level 2 candidates, scored 191 out of 200. He said that the Mandarin songs singing during classroom learning encouraged him to speak Mandarin confidently. “Inspiration from Shila Amzah has been the motivation for me in learning Mandarin. I wish I can speak Mandarin fluently like Shila in the future,” said Norhaida Wati Binti Mamat, student from Faculty of Electric & Electronic who scored 178 out of 200 in HSK Level 2. Mohamad Ikhwan Bin Mohd Rashid, student from from Faculty of Engineering Technology, felt very delighted when he got his good results for HSK Level 2. After two semesters of learning Mandarin, he was surprised that he was able to pass HSK Level 2. Another 2 students from Faculty of Civil Engineering & Earth Resources, Nurul Syammimi Binti Zulkaranai Hassan and Nur Fazliana Binti Muhamad Razali, said that the effort of learning Mandarin is being paid with the good resutls of HSK Level 2. It is proven that UMP students are capable in mastering a foreign language after 2 semester of learning. The ability of speaking an additional language can be considered as an essential skill for future job seekes who want to keep up with today’s rapidly increasing global economy. |
