28 April 2021-The MoA signing ceremony of dual degree programme in railway engineering between Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) and Beijing Jiaotong University (BJTU) was held in Zenith Hotel, Putrajaya.
Tan Sri Mohd Khairul Adib Abd Rahman (Director General of Public Service, Malaysia), Prof. Dato’ Dr. Husaini Bin Omar (Director General of Ministry of Higher Education, Malaysia), Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Dr. Abdul Aziz Abdul Rahman (Chairman, Board of Directors, UMP), Professor Ir Dr. Wan Azhar Bin Wan Yusoff (Vice Chancellor, UMP), Prof. Dr. Wang Jiaqiong (President, BJTU), Mr. Abdul Aziz How Abdullah (Counsellor Education Section, Embassy Malaysia in China), Mr. Feng Jun (Director of Cultural and Education Affairs, Embassy of China in Malaysia), etc. attended the MoA signing ceremony physically and through online.
There are three dual degree programmes in railway engineering offer between UMP and BJTU, includes Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) Civil Engineering, Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) Mechanical Engineering, Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) Electrical Engineering (Power System). The students will study at UMP for two years and then continue studying at BJTU for the next two and a half years. Upon graduation with qualified grades, both universities will be awarded degrees, respectively. The Malaysian Public Service will provide scholarships for the students under these dual degree programmes.
The Confucius Institute UMP has provided great assistance to implement the dual degree programme between UMP and BJTU. Ms. Yong Ying Mei (Director Malaysia, CI UMP) and Prof. Dr. Guo Fuliang (Director China, CI UMP) have done a lot of work in the communication between both universities, staff and student exchanges, courses matching, agreement translation, and media publicity.
With the start of the dual degree programme, the Confucius Institute UMP will also conduct Mandarin courses and HSK Intensive course for the 60 Malaysian students of the dual degree programme. Students will be able to achieve the requirement of language level for study abroad.
This dual degree programme would significantly address the workforce demands from Malaysia’s rail industry as well as enhancing both UMP’s and BJTU’s technical capabilities and professional expertise in rail engineering-related research.
